Abstract
For the first issue of Ee‐JRIF, along with education and health, we have selected agriculture as the main theme for soliciting, reviewing and publishing the papers. We think that agriculture is critical for Ethiopia’s future. In spite of the declarations made by both the UN system, the African Union and even specific Governments、 agriculture remains still in a state where a country like Ethiopia has not been able to achieve food security. Every year around the Christmas period, there has been reports of food shortages and scarcity reported by both the world food programme and the Government in Ethiopia. Very often the numbers that need food aid reported by the World Food Programme is bigger than those reported by the local Government. This is a recurrent dilemma that has defined the country and given it a brand name that it is incapable of feeding itself.
