NES-Global ACTIVITY PLANS

Project no.1 Interactive Engagement with Scientific Research and Knowdlege - for the new generation. There will be subject classification from Mathematics, Medicine to the Humanities and Social Science where interactive engagement with new research and knowledge will be promoted for the new generation. There are many scholars and researchers teaching in higher education that can provide useful advice to students who want to go to university or for those who want to further their study at a graduate level. NESGlobal will be a bridge to facilitate such activities for the new generation.

Project no.2: Generating Scientific Data An attempt will be made to generate data on all the scientific work that is being done on Ethiopia. This will include both the researcher and the work that has been accomplished. This data will be used to create a vibrant communication amongst all the researchers on any aspect of Ethiopian life from around the world.

Project no.3: Archival Materials Rare documents, images, voices, historical facts that need to be archived for research and for encouraging the generations to learn will be developed. This archival material will provide an electronic storage of rare information that will be used to inspire generations. Special attention will be given, particularly to those that are Ethiopians and for Ethiopia only. For instance, on Ethiopian indigenous staple crop(grain), "Teff" - Ethiopian national bread; on African only, the Ethiopian Alphabet, "Geeze", ... etc.

Project no. 4: Publishing Book We can electronically in the www.nesglobal.org publish an edited book, where various contributors can contribute chapters. For example we can suggest a book on water, on how in Ethiopia fresh water can reach the 80 million people. We can take a real issue of hunger eradication. We can take issues from food aid to food security… a host of issues in health, education, research and development, innovation, social capital, political culture and others. We can start this project by identifying lead editors who then make calls to get at least a number of (7-10) contributors to publish, the work must be peer reviewed and once published it can be printed as an NES-Global publishing unit…..

Project no.5: Publishing Journal We can also start a web based publishing Journal of Global Ethiopian Research and Training Foresight (JGERF), where themes can be chosen and editorial board appointed and at least 2 or at best four issues are published. This journal is a research journal and all the articles must be peer reviewed.

Project no.6: Global Resource for Gradatue Work. Global resource for supervising post-graduate work by experts that exist around the world. There are many post-doctoral scholars and researchers teaching in higher education that can provide useful feedback to all the work of post-graduate students in Ethiopia. The nesglobal web site www.nesglobal.org will be used to upload the abstract of the work and it will be routed to a qualified referee for the graduate work to get feedback additional to what the regular trainees can provide. Once the work is routed to the appropriate expert, there is an opportunity to develop meaningful communication between the expert and the graduate researcher. This will help to upgrade and raise the standard of the graduate work in Ethiopia.

Project no.7: Acknowledging and Accessing Ethiopians Scholarly Work and Their Achievements. Completed PhD thesis and any scholarly published work should be disseminated widely through policy briefs and insights so that the work is not shelved in libraries and people know about what Ethiopians are producing. This can extend to patents and any new and original ineventions Ethiopians happen to produce anywhere in the world..

Project no.8: NES NES commentaries contribute and share ideas for the democratisation of Ethiopian politics, economics and society by being independent of all the political parties both ruling the country and opposing the rulers to come to power. NES is not in the business of power. It is in the business of spreading and diffusing knowledge as part and parcel of civil society and civic trust building to change the mind set and attitudes of people by fostering training and sustainable and constructive communication.
