CARE’s work in Ethiopia was established in 1984 in response to the widespread and acute famine between 1983 and 1984. Although CARE continues to carry out emergency feeding, the focus of our work in Ethiopia has shifted beyond emergency relief to longer term rehabilitation and development.

Cheshire Services is an independent non-profit making organisation who provide orthopedic and social rehabilitation services for children and young people with disabilities in Ethiopia. The charity was founded in 1962 by British war hero Lord Geoffrey Leonard Cheshire, by invitation from Emperor Haile Selassie's grandchildren, with the intention of rehabilitating children with disabilities. Over the years Cheshire Services has become afiliated with many international charities and continues to expand its operations treating a wider range of disabilities across the whole of Ethiopia.

Children Aid- Ethiopia (CHAD-ET) is an indigenous non-governmental organization that is involved in protecting the rights and welfare of children found under difficult circumstances. Established 1995, CHAD-ET is registered by the Ethiopian government as a not for profit NGO.

USAID's main objective in Ethiopia is to overcome the country's near-constant state of food insecurity. Natural disasters, extreme poverty and underdevelopment, poor water and land management, and inadequate access to health care, education, and economic opportunity are the main causes of underdevelopment. USAID's work in Ethiopia improves disaster prediction and response management, economic growth, governance structures, and the quality of health care and education.
